You built those multipliers off months of conversion data. Top of Search plus forty, Product Pages minus twenty, Rest of Search at base. It's the highest-leverage lever in the account and the one nobody outside the seat understands.

Since Monday morning there's a fourth placement underneath them, and it doesn't read any of it.

What Amazon turned on

On August 10, Sponsored Products began serving inside off-Amazon creator content — product reviews, editorial roundups, buying guides. Announced August 4. Live six days later.

Existing campaigns were enrolled automatically, at current bids and current budgets. Nothing to accept. If you ran Sponsored Products on Sunday, you were running off-Amazon on Monday.

Three mechanics decide what it costs.

One — the placement adjustments don't travel. Top of Search and Product Pages multipliers apply on Amazon and stop at the edge of it. Off-Amazon, the base bid is the bid. Every account managed through modifiers instead of base bids just found a hole in the modifier layer.

Two — the clicks come from the same daily budget. No separate off-Amazon budget, no separate cap, no separate line. A campaign pacing at 100% on Sunday is now funding a placement class it has no history on, from the same pool.

Three — dynamic bidding still applies. Which cuts both ways. Down Only still protects you off-Amazon. Up and Down will still raise a base bid you set for a placement that no longer means what it meant last week.

The search terms aren't real either

Creator content has no shopper query behind it. A buying guide isn't a search. So Amazon infers a search term "with customer context that best matches the advertised product" and reports it as a search term.

Read that against how you actually work. Your harvest loop reads the search term report, promotes what converted, negates what didn't. Both halves assume the string in that column is something a human typed.

Starting this week some of those strings are Amazon's guess about what a page was about. Feed them into a harvest loop and you promote phantom keywords into exact match. Feed them into a negation loop and you negate a placement class, not a query.

What you actually get to control

There's a campaign-level setting for off-Amazon delivery — reported as Settings for ads served off Amazon — with two options. Increase reach, the default you were enrolled into. Limit off-Amazon spend, which restricts delivery.

Read that second label carefully, because it's doing a lot of work. Limit is not off. Amazon did not ship an off.

Two more caveats worth carrying. Labels have moved before: when Amazon shipped off-Amazon controls around August 2025 they surfaced as Maximize reach and Minimize spend. Look for the setting, not the string. And the second control — Amazon Ads deny lists, covering websites, apps and individual creator tags — is a blocklist you maintain, not a switch you flip.

So the documented controls give you less and fewer, not none.

There is a way to none. It just isn't in the documentation. An Amazon community manager told sellers on Seller Forums they can open a case with Ads Support and request removal from off-Amazon placements. That's the full exit, and it's a case number rather than a checkbox — which tells you something about how Amazon expects this to go.

The Numbers

  • August 10 — creator placements live; existing campaigns auto-enrolled at current bids and budgets

  • 0 — placement bid adjustments that apply off-Amazon. Base bid prices every off-Amazon click

  • 1 — daily budget funding all four placement classes. It didn't grow

  • 2 — documented controls, and neither one is an off switch

  • August 16, 2023 — the last time Amazon did this. Controls arrived roughly two years later

Translation: Modifiers were the last place in this account where your judgment beat the algorithm, and there's now a placement your judgment can't reach. Amazon shipped a limit, not an off — so the real off is a support case, and the operators who open it this week are the ones who get to keep pricing their own auction.

The Brief

Amazon ran this play three years ago and it went one direction. On August 16, 2023, Sponsored Products expanded onto Pinterest, BuzzFeed, Hearst Newspapers, Raptive and Ziff Davis properties. Amazon's wording then: advertisers "do not need to take any action to appear on these sites or apps." There was no opt-out at all, and campaign-level off-Amazon controls didn't arrive for roughly two years. Surface first, controls late — which means the version of these controls you're holding this week is the worst version you will ever have.

August 24 — the BSA change nobody is reading. Amazon is updating the Business Solutions Agreement to bar transferring your rights or obligations under the agreement, and separately to expressly bar pledging them as collateral. Attorneys reading it say the plain effect is that revenue-based financing secured by your Amazon disbursements — and quiet account handovers on exit — are now contractually prohibited. Reported May 29; the clause text isn't public. If an RBF facility is funding Q4 POs, that's a call to your lender this week.

October 15 — peak fulfillment, and the fee isn't the story. The peak window runs October 15 through January 14 at roughly $0.32 per unit above non-peak, on top of the standing 3.5% fuel and logistics surcharge. Fees are flat year over year. The calendar moved: AWD receive-by for Prime Big Deal Days is September 2, FBA minimal splits September 9, Amazon-optimized splits September 16. Black Friday and Cyber Monday run October 14 / 21 / 28. A Q4 ad plan means nothing on a listing that isn't receivable.

Quick Win

Turn off off-Amazon traffic. Delegate to whoever owns the ad account; forty-five minutes today, then one follow-up on Thursday.

  1. Set every campaign to Limit off-Amazon spend. Campaign settings → the off-Amazon section → switch off Increase reach. Do it across the whole account, not a sample. If the labels in your console read Maximize reach and Minimize spend, you're in the right place — pick the spend one.

  1. Open the Ads Support case, because the toggle only limits. Amazon did not ship an off switch, and a community manager confirmed on Seller Forums that Ads Support can remove an account from these placements. Ask for it in one line: "Please remove advertiser account [ID] from Sponsored Products off-Amazon creator placements entirely, across all campaigns." Log the case number — it's the artifact.

  1. Build the deny list while the case is open. Amazon Ads deny lists cover websites, apps and individual creator tags. It's your only coverage until the case resolves, and it stays useful afterward.

  1. Negative-target the inferred search terms. Pull the search term report, diff August 10-forward against August 1–9, and negate the new strings that no human would plausibly type — long, clean, descriptive phrases with no misspellings and no brand fragments. Those are generated. Negating them is the only precision instrument you have.

  1. Freeze the harvest loop until the case closes. No keyword promotions out of that report while it's part guess.

  1. Verify on Thursday, don't assume. Pull the placement report and confirm off-Amazon impressions are trending toward zero. A toggle that didn't save and a toggle that did look identical from the dashboard.

The artifact: a one-page off-Amazon shutdown log — every campaign with the toggle date, the deny list owner, the Ads Support case number, and the Thursday verification check — so nobody silently re-enables this in October and nobody has to rediscover the case path next time.

Amazon shipped a limit and called it a control. The off switch exists, it's just a phone call — and the operators who make it this week are the ones still pricing their own auction in September.

One ask. When Ads Support answers your case, reply and tell me what they said — whether they removed you, pushed back, or pretended not to know what you're talking about. I'll publish the pattern Friday. There's exactly one Seller Forums post confirming this path and no documentation behind it, which means the real answer is whatever happens to the twenty of you who open a ticket this week.

See you Friday.
